Gift Guide: Father’s Day 2015

The 2015 Father's Day Gift Guide: 7 great non-tie, non-mug, non-t-shirt gifts the men and dads in your life want!I love my husband, I do.  But when it comes to birthdays, Christmas and Father’s Day, I feel at a loss.  He’s really into tech.  I am not.  He’s really into stuff like Star Wars and Doctor Who.  I am not.  He likes tools.  My eyes glaze over.  So, that being said, here’s my brainstorm for Father’s Day gifts this year.  Something here will be perfect and maybe if you’re feeling the same annual confusion I am, something here can help you too!

$20 & Under
This is my kind of price range.  It can be so hard to find something great that doesn’t seem cheap though.  I mean, “Thanks for being the father of my children who are the most important things in my life.  Here’s a mug to celebrate your role.” seems kinda awkward.  These gifts though are significantly better.

Star Trek Family Car Decals $13 from ThinkGeek.  I was playing around on the ThinkGeek website this weekend (it’s a great place to find off the beaten path gifts).  My husband spotted these car decals and commented on how he loved them!  Really?  A car decal of the family?  But yes, apparently having the family shown as Star Trek characters is irresistible.  And at just $13, it’s a great way to celebrate the family you’ve made together without breaking the bank.

Gamma Ray Computer Glasses $20 from Amazon.  We all know looking at computer screens is bad for our eyes, but in today’s world, there’s really nothing we can do about that, right?  Wrong.  Computer glasses are the latest thing and they’re actually helping prevent eye strain.  While some are $70 or more, these highly-rated ones from Gamma Ray are just $20.  As an added bonus:  if your man is blind like I am, you can get the lenses magnified for $5 more.

Nerd Box would make a great subscription gift for anyone, even mom.

Nerd Block $20.  I talked about these at Mother’s Day.  Nerd Block is a subscription service that sends you a t-shirt and various “nerd gear” each month, with several theme options (nerd, comic or arcade).  You can purchase a single box for $20 or subscribe to the monthly delivery for a price break (as low as $15.99 a month when you buy a year at a time).  Who doesn’t love receiving a box of random goodies in the mail?

$21 -$50
This range is a bit of a splurge but it’s easier to get something great that shows how much you value him.  These gifts are sure to kick Father’s Day up a notch.

’47 Brand Men’s Franchise Fitted Hat $30 from FansEdge.  I love FansEdge.  Their prices on licensed merchandise are great, they have a huge selection (including teams that don’t exist anymore) and their products are a great quality.  If your man is a sports lover, you can’t go wrong with sports apparel.  I’m loving these vintage looking hats from a brand called ’47.  With basketball playoffs happening right now, it’s a great time for your guy to sport his favorite NBA team.

Wood Magazine $22 from DiscountMags.  These woodworking magazines are big in my house!  They’re full of great idea for home decor, storage, home improvement and more.  They’re really pretty cool.  My husband gets a few of them and Wood is one of the best.  $22 gets you one year (7 issues) of great project ideas delivered.

Above $50
Okay, so maybe we aren’t in a position to just drop this kind of cash on a gift this year, but it might be a good splurge to decide together.  Or maybe it’s just nice to make a fantasy list.

Grillbot $120 from Amazon.  This little splurge is definitely on my short list of things to get for my husband.  He’s completely lusting after this little grill cleaning robot.  Simply turn it on, close the lid to the grill and Grillbot cleans everything.  The brushes are dishwasher safe and replaceable.

Roku 3 $99 on Amazon.  We have an original Roku player and love it!!  These little boxes hook up to your tv and allow you to watch streaming media:  Netflix, Hulu, HBOgo, Amazon, YouTube, MLBtv, and over 2,000 other channels.  We disconnected our cable when we got a Roku and have never looked back.  The newer generations are faster, better and this Roku 3 even has voice search for the ultimate coolness factor.

That’s my short list for this year.  What will you be getting the man in your life for Father’s Day?
