Unexpected Organizers: Shoe Pockets

Today’s unexpected organizer is over the door shoe pockets. These were originally created to hold overflowing shoe collections, but they are also great for holding all sorts of things. Many are straightforward and either white or beige like the ones I have, but many in recent years are made of more decorative fabric.

In my home, we use these for a few things. Currently, we have one in the master bathroom for holding our day to day items like deodorant, hair brushes, face wash and q-tips. It keeps everything off the counter and easily at hand. This organizer is inside of a closet in the bathroom, so it closes up easily and we don’t have to look at it all the time.

Use this over the door shoe organizer for small bathroom storage

We have another shoe pocket organizer in the playroom which is used exclusively for Build A Bear accessories. Rather than putting this one over the door, we hung it from a bookcase with two Command Hooks.

Easily keep all your Build A Bear accessories in view and off the floor with these wall pocket shoe organizers.

Both of these have worked out well for us over the years.

Some other uses for shoe pockets include:

  • American Girl accessories
  • Gardening items
  • Spray paint
  • Small tools
  • Spices
  • Hats, gloves and scarves
  • Hosiery and leggings

Do you use shoe pockets in your home? What do you use yours for?

  1. Great post, Christine! I LOVE shoe pocket organizers! I have one in my coat closet, which I use to store all of our mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, etc. It makes organization of those items so easy and allows my kids to put away and access their things with ease. Great idea to use them in the playroom, too!

      Thanks Bre!

Using them for mittens and scarves sounds like a great idea! That would totally reduce the mess in my kiddo’s dressers. I might have to do that 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by 🙂

These are handy for so many things. I found a cute brown and blue polka dot fabric one and I use it in my sewing room to hold supplies. I love it! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

Hi Jann! I bet your polkadot ones are super cute! I’m so impressed with how many decorative ones have come out over the last couple of years.

Thanks so much for stopping by and of course, for hosting SYC 🙂
